Chrysanthemums or mums are my favorite fall flower! Colorful and long-lasting, these plants are the perfect choice for fall décor. This post shows you how to create an easy centerpiece with mums. I try to find ways to do things quickly, be budget conscious, and still have a great style. This centerpiece checks all those boxes for me!
Start by selecting three garden mums from your local garden center. Select smaller mums as the centerpiece should not be too tall. See my post on how to save money on fall mums. Orange, yellow, and white work well in the fall, but mums come in many different colors so feel free to pick colors that work best with your decor.
Select three smaller mums. Three different colors add a pop of color.
Garden mums typically come in black containers. I inserted the black containers into white pots to achieve the look I wanted for this centerpiece. The white pots make the flowers stand out more and give it a clean fresh look! Repotting the mums is a great way to make it last longer but I haven’t done it yet because I only wanted to use this centerpiece for a few days. After I am done with the centerpiece, I’ll plant these mums in my garden to try to save it for next year.
Insert the mums into white planters for a fresh clean aesthetic.
A white thanksgiving serving platter helps anchor the centerpiece. The one I used is no longer available, but a similar is available at Bed, Bath and Beyond or Amazon. The beaded edges of this platter give it a nice touch. This is a large platter and it’s great to be able to use it for decor.

I used a mix of real and faux pumpkins for this centerpiece. The orange minis are real and the white pumpkins are faux. If you love white pumpkins, see my post on how to decorate with white pumpkins! Mixing both faux and real pumpkins for this centerpiece is a great way to go!
Use fresh and faux pumpkins to create interest.
Group three mums together to create a focal point. Add the pumpkins around it to complete the look. The oranges, whites, and yellows, look so great together and will be sure to add a touch of fall to your home.
Group three mums together to create a focal point and add the pumpkins around it. It’s as simple as that!
This centerpiece is so easy to put together and looks great! With a little care, your mums could last a long time. There are many great articles on how to care for mums and I’ve summarized a few tips in my post here.
There are many great ways to create a centerpiece similar to this one. The key is to try to fill the platter with different decor elements of varying sizes and colors. Some ideas are below.
- Bittersweet and pumpkins
- Pumpkins of different sizes
- Pumpkins and dried leaves
- Pumpkins and string lights
