FIVE TIPS TO CREATE A SPRING CENTERPIECE

A spring centerpiece is a wonderful way to incorporate some color into your home after a long winter. Spring is my favorite time of year! All the flowers start to bloom and the earth begins to show signs of new life. While nature blooms outdoors, it’s nice to create a pretty atmosphere indoors too. We have a formal dining room which we hardly ever use. I often add seasonal decor to bring the space to life. I hope the tips I’ve shared below will help you create a spring centerpiece that you can enjoy too!

This year, I selected pastel colors and bunnies as my theme for the dining space. Selecting a theme is a great way to start decorating as it makes it easier to decide what elements you need to include in the space.

Tip 1 – Select a theme and a color scheme to help streamline your decor.

Decide on the decor elements you plan to use in the space. These green bunnies were my inspiration and starting point for creating the spring centerpiece. I really like pastel colors so it was very easy for me to select the color palette for this tablescape.

If you want a larger centerpiece, create smaller groupings of items as you go. I used a mix of bunnies, fresh florals, pastel eggs, a topiary, and glass containers to complete the look. I’ve mixed the bunnies with fresh flowers to create a smaller vignette. These smaller groupings add interest to the centerpiece.

Tip 2 – Group items together to catch the eye.

Add a focal point to the center of the table and create symmetry so that it is pleasing to the eye. The middle of the centerpiece has a topiary that includes little eggs and chicks that complement the color scheme. The topiary adds a whimsical element to the table and since it is taller than the other items it stands out more and is a great choice to anchor the setting.

Tip 3 – Add a focal point to the center of the table and build symmetry around it.

I like to grow my own flowers and use it in my décor. There is nothing better than stepping outside and cutting a few stems to enjoy indoors. If you don’t have flowers at home, your local grocery store or nearby farmer’s market should have some you can incorporate into your centerpiece.

Tip 4 – Incorporate natural elements. Flowers or potted plants take your tablescape from ordinary to extraordinary!

Just like decorating a sofa with layers, you can add several layers to your centerpiece. Layers in terms of color elements, objects of different sizes and shapes makes a difference. In this tablescape, I’ve added so many different decor items but I added it a little at a time and assessing if I liked the overall look as I went along. Don’t be afraid to edit at the end to get the streamlined look you’d like to see.

Tip 5 – Add layers but don’t be afraid to edit at the end to create a streamlined look.
